Pain is an illness itself and whoever afflicted with it need to be treated accordingly in order to enjoy a better quality of life, especially for the debilitating pain. Some require mild analgesic like paracetamol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) while others may need strong pain killer like the morphine family of drug.

Causes of pain

The causes can be due to diseases, injury or degenerative changes.

The diseases can be commonly due to viral infection. The commonest viral infection is Herpes Simplex that attack the cranial nerve number 5, also called the Trigeminal Nerve. Herpes Zooster that affect the nerve along the dermatome of the thoracic and lumbar nerve trunk, usually half of the trunk on the one side.

The degenerative pain is commonly caused by the collapsed vertebral body, prolapsed disc. The other common one is the degenerative changes of the articular cartilages of joints like the knee joint, shoulder and ankle joints.

Cancer or Terminal illness pain

All the cancer pain are severe and not easy to treat. Most of them require opiods prescription, which in a normal circumstances is addicting, but is waived for terminal patient.
