Double eyelid surgery is also called Asian double eyelid procedure or East Asian Blepharoplasty.
In this type of Double eyelid surgery or cosmetic surgery, the skin of the upper eyelid is reshaped. The main aim is to create an upper eyelid with a crease to form a double eyelid, from an eyelid without a crease called the “single eyelid”, also known as the “monolid.” Our Dr and clinic can do this with minimal downtime using a non-surgical technique and is one of our hottest selling list.
Firstly, the differences of East Asian eyelid is that they (mostly) don’t have an upper eyelid crease compared to the Whites and the Blacks who naturally have the eyelid cease.
Secondly, there is large variation in the crease position and hence the double eyelid position. This position can vary from 1 to 10 mm measured from the eyelash. The smaller the distance, the less visible is the eyelid crease and hence the necessity of making one by a double eyelid surgery.
Quite often this procedure of Double eyelid surgery is done together with the eye bag known as lower blepharoplasty. This is especially the case in those forties and above. This is because they tends to have skin laxity and fat protrusion.

East Asian blepharoplasties or Double eyelid surgery have been reported to be the most common cosmetic operation in the Taiwan, the South Korea & many other parts of Asia where Mongoloid race reside. The procedure is fairly simple and small operation where complications is minimal. Practitioners of Asian double eyelid surgery include the plastic surgeon, cosmetic surgeon and aesthetic surgeon, dermatologist. A procedure to remove the epicantal fold (i.e. an epicanthoplasty) is often performed in conjunction with an Asian blepharoplasty.
The operation of trying to alter the natural East Asian “single eyelid” appearance has been a subject of controversy through Double eyelid surgery. The Whites described it as being “indoctrinated by white standards of beauty”. However, other cosmetic surgeon states that many patients who wish to get the procedure done are “not trying to look white”, but trying to look like the many Asians who naturally have an eyelid fold. Many of such influencers are the top entertainment celebrities.
Many a time people get Double eyelid done for various reasons. There is also a belief that double eyelids provide a more energetic appearance, and the procedure is popular among high school graduates in China, Taiwan and Korea with the view that it will improve their job prospects.
