Alar enlargement

Alar enlargement

Rather than an actual enlargement, it actually involves the thickening of the alar skinny covering by inserting other tissue, commonly the ear cartilages.

Furthermore, the nostrils rim is very thinly covered or not fleshy enough.

This procedure is less common than compared to the alar reduction. Nevertheless, this is gaining importance due to a hot trends going on. Asian is now more affluent. A thin nose person is less reliable, less dignified characters & less prosperous as presumed, by the face reading that is gaining ground, everyone would love to be recognized and accepted by their peers. Hence, the popularity of thin alar structure. The villain character of the movie typically have such character.

The nostrils of certain client are more visible, or that the nose appears to look rather tight especially when they laugh. This is because their noses are rather skinny. This means the skin covering the nasal cartilages (refers to alar cartilages) is rather thin. It has much less fibro-fatty tissue under the skin. This is on the contrary less “meaty” that voluminous tip.

Yes, the face reading person reads the nose and other facial features to determine and forecast a person’s fortune in their life time. They make prognosis of less fortune accumulated if their nostril is prominent, meaning leaking wealth. Another nose type that is frowned upon is the tight and skinny nose. Skinny and thin means less fortune, and her character less reliable and trusted by other.

Alar enlargement is a surgery that fills small alar by enlarging it.

The various defects of the alar that needs corrective surgery are:

  1. papery or skinny alar covering — needs thickening of covering skin or the cartilage
  2. nostril rims has little flesh/skin –needs augmentation of nostril rim alar cartilages
  3. tip of nose is not fleshy but very skinny — needs alar cartilage pulled higher and longer projection, and increased length with inserted cartilage for thickness

Surgical procedures

The principle is centered around creating more flesh to the thin skin covering the alar. Another way to say is by thickening the skin.

The best choice material is still the patient’s own cartilages, usually harvested from the ear, or less commonly from the septum, or the rib cartilages. They are harvested and inserted onto the tip or covering the alar under the skin.

For the large nostril, the cartilages can be inserted at and around the rim of the nostrils.

The nose bridge narrowing may be done with nose columella lifting surgery, or the tip refinement surgery. The job is called the nose job or rhinoplasty.

Post operation recovery

Post operation, the stitches may be taken off from 6-7 days. The visible enhancement of result is seen 1 week later. For best result, wait for a couple of weeks more.

If ear cartilage is grafted with skin, a scab may form in a nose for a month.
